DP merges Unifeeder Shortsea and P&O Ferrymasters

DP World is merging its two European multimodal operators Unifeeder Shortsea and P&O Ferrymasters and ‘with immediate effect’ under the latter’s name. According to the Dubai-based group, this will lead to “an improved proposition to customers across Europe.” DP World, originally a terminal operator, does not provide any information about the scope of the operation, nor whether it will have personnel consequences.
Unifeeder Shortsea is part of Unifeeder A/S, the originally Danish feeder shipping company, which DP World acquired in 2018 for 660 million dollars. It is unclear how large this activity is within the total company, which operates a fleet of more than fifty container feeders.
Dp World has invested heavily in building a logistics division in recent years and bought British P&O Ferries in 2019 for 370 million euros. P&O Ferrymasters is the logistics branch of the British ferry company, which was discredited at the beginning of this year due to the ‘flash redundancy’ of more than 800 seafarers.
