According to shipping consultancy Drewry, so called MPVs (Multipurpose vessels) will to be used to help out with the supply shortages in the container sector well into 2022.

Although rates slowed at the end of last year, Drewry expects the rates go up exponentially. The explanation for the surge is that supply constraints lingers on because of port closures due to Omicron and port congestion. In order to alleviate the supply shortages, Drewry expects that MPVs continued to be used.
