Gas company Air Products and commodity trader Gunvor are jointly investing in a hydrogen terminal in the port of Rotterdam. Green hydrogen must enter the Netherlands via that terminal. It is the intention that the terminal should supply the first hydrogen in 2026. They do not disclose how much the companies invest.

Hydrogen is seen as essential for making industry in particular more sustainable. Clean energy that is not immediately needed at the time of generation can be converted into the substance that can then be converted back into electricity later. For the terminal of Gunvor and Air Products, green hydrogen is converted into ammonia and transported in that form to Rotterdam.

On Tuesday, fuel trader Neste also announced that it would definitively expand its refinery for sustainable fuels in the port of Rotterdam. Neste is investing 1.9 billion euros, roughly doubling its capacity to 2.7 million tons of sustainable fuels per year. Of this, 1.2 million tons per year will be sustainable aviation fuel. This expansion will also deliver the first products in 2026.
