Transporting goods from China to Europe is 4 to 5 times more expensive compared to a year ago. Currently, transporting cargo from a 40-foot container (approximately 12 meters long and +- 2.5 meters wide) costs between ten and twelve thousand euros per 40-foot container.
In percentage terms, this is more than 400% higher than in the same period last year. There are a number of shipping lines on this traffic that have temporarily frozen their freight rates to cater to their good and regular customers.
Transporting raw materials also continues to grow steadily. It is suspected that this is due to the reasonably rapid recovery of the economy in Northern Europe.
In addition to container carriers, this is also beneficial for bulk carriers, which mainly transport industrial raw materials.
The outlook for both sectors remains very positive for the next 3 to 6 months.
